Natural Health - Acupressure

What is Acupressure and what are its Healing Benefits?
Acupressure is an ancient healing technique that uses finger pressure to balance energy flows in the body. Acupressure practitioners apply a pressure to specific points in the body to relieve energy blocks and reinstate smooth energy delivery. The efficacy of the treatment depends on the location where the pressure is applied.

According to historic records, acupressure natural health therapy was practiced in ancient China and actually predates acupuncture by a few hundred years. Acupressure is part of TCM or Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Our bodies have a complex system of internal energy pathways called ‘meridians’. When meridians or energy channels become blocked, we develop physical and mental conditions. Acupressure therapy helps dissolve energy blocks and allows life-force or Chi (also called Qi) to flow through the body. There are a total of 12 important energy meridians in the body, each channel supplying energy to various organs. These energy channels connect soft organs with the exterior bone, tissue and muscle.

By manipulating the bone and muscle with their finger-tips, practitioners are able to stimulate energy flow to organs in the body. Ancient oriental cultures discovered that at specific ‘acu-points’, energy meridians run close to the skin surface. By applying gentle or firm pressure at specific points, the practitioner is able to stimulate energy flow to the surface and can feel the ‘energy pulse’ at that point.

Acupressure practitioners usually press along a series of points until the energy flow is evenly distributed. Sessions typically begin with ‘Tui Na’; an initial massage that revitalises the body’s natural healing ability. Modern medicine systems believe that acupressure promotes the production of endorphins; natural pain-killing hormones.

What are the Benefits of Acupressure?
Acupressure is associated with a host of healing benefits and can be safely used alongside western medication.

Acupressure is a natural health therapy that reduces pain and promotes faster healing of injuries. This is because manipulating acu-points helps increase blood supply to wounds and injuries. Clients also experience reduction of swellings due to the release of cortisone.

Acupressure is known to relieve conditions including muscular pains, spondylitis, backaches, frozen shoulders, vertigo and epilepsy. Additional benefits include alleviation of menstrual cramps, hot flushes, moodiness as well as relief from tooth aches, sinusitis and migraine.

Acupressure leads to relaxation, stress relief, improved mental focus, better sleep and sharper memory.

Acupressure is a natural health technique that helps re-establish Chi flow which in turn induces an overall sense of physical, mental and emotional wellbeing.
